"Angel?"
The door creaked open and Harper peeked into the room. "What's up babe?"
Rae held out a handfull of coins and dollar bills. "What kind of girlfriend would I be if I let you buy your own coffee?"

A kiss goodbye to Rae and Harper was out the door and down the street. She got coffee with her girl friends every Saturday. It was a short, boring walk, but she liked the fresh air and the click of her heels on the cobblestone street.
"Martaa," she sang as she stepped in, taking her place next to her friends, shrugging off her coat. They stood exchanged greetings. "<i>Oh, là. Ragazze</i>, how are you?"
When they were done, she pulled her wallet out, but Julie put a hand over hers. "<i>No, bella</i>, I just got paid! My treat." She winked and hopped off her chair to pay the bill.
Harper just smiled, then looked thoughtfully at the coins in her wallet.

The girl smiled at Bea, and as she left, she dropped the extra coins and bills into the tip jar and flashed her a smile to the her.
The walk back was to her place after work was nice, and quiet. A breeze rustled through the trees and the slow tune of a cello made its way towards her as she rounded the corner.
A tall woman with brown wispy hair leaned into her melody as she played. She looked down at the open case, coins glinting in the afternoon sun.

Emily gave the girl a quick nod as she dropped some coins and a bill into her cello case, then shifted her focus back to the song.
She shivered. The sun had sunk below the horizon, bringing a chill to the September air, so Emily packed up things and grabbed some change from the case, putting the rest safely away in her bag.
At her bus stop she noticed a new newsstand had popped up just across the street. She had another eight minutes before her bus came, so she went to look over their collection of brightly colored toys and fads, searching for something to buy her niece.
She finally spotted the Harry Potter themed action figures that her daughter had been gushing over last week.

Rae was itching to finish her shift. After she had locked up, she walked next door to the flower shop and picked out Harper's favorite flower, carnations.

Harper sighed in resignation, watching as her Julie paid and tucking her own wallet back into her purse.
Three hours later she was finishing up her new afternoon babysitting job. The girl's mom looked at her with a sheepish look. "Listen, I only have a fifty. Can you break it?"
"Oh of course! It's no problem."
She pulled out a handful of coins and bills and coins and counted them out. "Here, it's really no problem."

"Beautiful music," she murmured as she walked past. The woman smiled, giving her an appreciative nod.
Home, she was greeted with her frenzied mother, who was rushing to wrap a scarf around her little sister Bianca. "Honey I have to go, your father just called me pitching another fit, and the lawyer can only meet right now of all times. Take your sister to the park, she had plans with her little friend. I'll be back later tonight, but don't wait up. There's money on the table for food! Thanks!"
The words tumbled from her mouth and before Bea could protest, she was gone. She turned to her sister, and they left for the park.
"Carla!" Before she ran over to her friend, Bea's sister looked up at her with wide eyes. "Can I pleeeeease have money to buy Silly Bandz at the newstand?? PLeasepleasepleaase?"

Emily looked back towards the bus stop. 2 Minutes. <i>Next time.</i>
Home, she smiled at her daughter as she ran up to her. "Hey Carla, how was school?"
As her daughter babbled about her school day, she put her stuff keys up on the counter, opening her wallet.
Once Carla was seated at the table with a snack in her hand, she dropped the change on the table. "Hey Harper's going to be here in fifteen minutes, ok? I have to run out early. You give her this when she gets here, ok? And be nice! I don't wanna have to look for another sitter. I love you."
When Harper arrived, Carla proudly pulled the money from her purple, sparkly purse.
"Oh wow, that's so pretty!" Harper chimed, earning a grin from the young girl.

At the newstand, Giorgio's shift was long and monotonous, but he passed the time by sketching passerbys and musing over the lives of everyone at the bus stop.
Come the end of his shift, he slung his bag over his shoulder and headed over to his favourite record store.
"Hello, Rae, how are you this evening?"
The girl at the counter waved. "Giorgio! Good to see you. I'm good, excited to get home."
"I won't be too long. Just here to pick up another tune for Mira."
"Date night?"
Giorgio nodded.
"Hmm...me too!"
"Ah, say hello to Harper for me, will you? and tell her to stop by sometime! You too. I'd love to cook for you too again sometime."

She tried to hand her money to the florist, a short woman with plump cheeks and a spray of freckles across her nose but she turned her away.
"Don't worry about it Rae, I still owe you for lunch last week. Enjoy your date night."
Rae was laughing when she pushed out the door. "Thanks, Emma, you're the best!"

Harper picked through her purse slowly in search for the change.
"Oh! Wait! I completely forgot"
Harper gave an easy smile as the mom rummaged through her jacket pocket from its place on the coatrack. She pulled out two bills and pressed them into Harper's hand. "Thanks again for coming on so much notice!"
The ride home was quick, and Harper shrugged off her jacket in the entrance.
"Rae?"
She stepped into the kitchen to a candles, and a large bouquet of carnations centered on the table. Rae set down two plates of freshly made pizza. "Surprise!"

Bea handed her her extra tip, with narrowed eyes. "You owe me!!" But her sister had already run off to buy the rubber band bracelets.
The old man at the newstand winked at Bianca as he handed her not just one, but two packs of the Silly Bandz. Her eyes widened, and he chuckled softly as he watched the other squeal with delight as she gave her the other packet.
Bianca held out her hand.

"That's so sweet, thanks B...but really, it's ok. Go get your toy, you deserve a treat for all those A's you've been getting at school!"
